Have you ever told AI something about your business, and a little later it acts like it never heard it? If you’ve wondered why AI forgets, you’re in good company. It happens to me too, and I use AI every single day. The good news is that once you understand why, you can fix most of it. In this post, I’ll share what’s really going on and the habits that finally helped my AI learn me. Don’t worry, you don’t need to be techy for any of this.
Here’s the way I think about it. AI is a lot like a new friend. A new friend doesn’t know you right away. However, after many conversations, they learn what you do, what you like, and how you talk.
AI works the same way. At first, you get generic answers. Then, as you keep talking with it, the answers start to sound like they were written for you. For example, I used to start every question by explaining my business. Now I just ask my question, and it already knows who I help.
Sometimes you still have to repeat yourself, though. And sometimes you have to correct it. When it gets something wrong, I just say, “That’s not right,” and tell it what is. That correction helps it learn.
So why AI forgets in the first place comes down to a few simple things.
Here’s a real example. I was making short videos for my Amazon Finds page with Claude. In one chat, we got into a great rhythm. I’d share a product; it would give me the image prompts; I’d send back the photos; and it would turn them into a finished video.
The next day, I started a new chat and expected the same thing. Instead, I had to remind it, “Aren’t we supposed to turn this into a video?” It remembered plenty about me. Still, it didn’t know that step was part of my routine.
The fix was simple. We saved the whole routine as a skill, which is a set of saved instructions it follows the same way every time. Now I don’t have to explain it again. Meanwhile, in ChatGPT, I mostly keep everything in one general chat, and it seems to remember me well there. Different tools just remember in different ways.

Now for the good part. These are the habits that helped my AI get to know me.

People tell me all the time that AI sounds robotic. I agree, at least at first! But you can change that.
When it writes something for you, read it out loud. If a phrase doesn’t sound like you, tell it, “I don’t talk that way,” or “I would never say that.” Over time, it learns your voice.
The best trick I know, though, is to give it your own writing. Upload a few things you’ve already written yourself, like old emails, posts, or blog articles. Then it can see how you talk, how you explain things, and the kinds of examples you like to use. In my experience, nothing makes AI sound more like you than that.
Once AI knows you, it stops being a fancy search box and starts feeling like a real helper. And that’s really just the beginning. There are a few more levels after this, all the way up to AI that does tasks for you.
