, by Stephen King.  It is about alien infection.  They get inside people’s bodies to feed on them.  The plot of the story is how to get rid of these aliens that are infecting so many people.

I wanted to read this book because people recommended it to me and have told me they like the book.  I have enjoyed other Stephen King books.

Synopsis of Dreamcatcher

The four main characters of the book are Beaver, Pete, Henry, and Jonesy.  They were childhood friends who stayed in touch throughout adulthood.  For the past twenty-five years, they have been getting together every year in November when hunting season starts and stayed at the same cabin.  The cabin belonged to Beaver’s dad.  He took all four of the boys hunting for the first time when they were in junior high school.  They referred to the cabin as Hole in the Wall.

At the beginning of the book, there is a lot of farting and burping, a typical guy thing.  However, this flatulence had an odor that was the worst that they had ever experienced.   Not everyone did it, though, only the humans who had aliens growing inside of them.

Getting Rid of This Alien Infection

Throughout the book, the author repeats several times that the solution to this whole alien infection problem is connected to another childhood friend, Duddits.  These four friends had lost contact with Duddits, although he had a major effect on their lives and he is now needed by his old pals.  A dreamcatcher comes into play too to solve this situation.

“He glimpses something more, as well:  some huge pattern, something like a dreamcatcher that binds all the years since they first met Duddits Cavel in 1978, something that binds the future as well.” (p. 272)

, I often referred back to the book cover because the book was like a puzzle to me.  The description of the book was vague but intriguing. I really enjoyed the story, but about a third of the way into the book, it became very confusing to me.  The story goes back and forth from the past to the present, and sometimes it would go into dreams.  Most of the time I did not know what was going on.  Getting close to the end of the book, I started understanding a little more about the situation being described.  Overall, it was too confusing to me.  I had to really push myself to read the rest of the book.  The ending was good when most of it came together.
